During the filtration process of sludge in the chamber Filter Press, the solid particles are trapped on the Filter Cloth, and as the solid particles accumulate, a mud cake layer is gradually formed.
The solid phase concentration of the mud cake layer close to the filter cloth is larger, while the sludge far away from the filter cloth must first overcome the resistance of the mud cake layer. Only the liquid phase can pass through the filter cloth and be finally discharged. When the solid phase density of the mud cake layer reaches a certain level, the moisture content of this part of the mud cake no longer decreases with the increase of filtration pressure, and the mud cake layer becomes a dense layer of the mud cake. After the moisture content of the mud cake slightly away from the filter cloth reaches a stable value, the moisture content can be further reduced by applying pressure and has good compressibility. This mud cake layer is called a sedimentation layer. The sludge whose moisture content has not been fully filtered under constant pressure is called the free layer.
From the layer theory of sludge filtration, it can be known that the specific filtration speed of sludge (filtrate flow rate per unit area of filtration) has nothing to do with the filtration area of the filter chamber. Then the cross-sectional area size of a single filter chamber does not affect the final moisture content of the mud cake. The thickness of the filter chamber has a direct impact on the final moisture content of the mud cake.
